Missouri online sports betting is expected to launch on December 1, 2025. Industry giant BetMGM solidified its position within the Missouri market after establishing a partnership with Century Casinos. This makes BetMGM one of the first operators that will set up shop in the Show Me State immediately at the launch date.
BetMGM is one of the online sports betting industry leaders, while Century operates 11 casinos across the country.
The partnership between BetMGM and Century Casinos ensures that BetMGM will operate their online sports betting application within Century’s license in Missouri. This means that Century will receive a portion of net gaming revenue.
They will also have the option to operate a retail sportsbook with BetMGM at their two brick-and-mortar locations. These are located in Caruthersville and another in Cape Girardeau.
“We are excited to partner with BetMGM, a leading online sports betting and gaming entertainment company with a dynamic and innovative brand,” said Erwin Haitzmann and Peter Hoetzinger, Co-Chief Executive Officers of Century Casinos in a May 27th press release.
BetMGM will look to build on its recent momentum as they prepare to enter the Missouri market.
BetMGM reported $657 million in Q1 net revenue, which was an increase of $194 million year-on year, making the operator EBITDA-positive for the first time. EBITDA stands for “Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization,” so this result bodes well for BetMGM’s sustainability.
As one of the first operators in Missouri, BetMGM will have a chance to establish a presence within the Show Me State. BetMGM will compete for market share with up to 13 other online sportsbooks.
Several other operators are expected to enter the Missouri market right around the December 2025 launch date. Below is a breakdown of potential operators and their partnerships.
It’s worth noting that there are two licenses available where sportsbooks don’t have to partner with Missouri retail casinos or professional sports teams. This is a benefit to the operator because they wouldn’t have to share revenue or pay licensing fees.
Since DraftKings contributed millions of dollars to help legalize online sports betting in Missouri through ballot initiatives such as Winning for Missouri Education, they are projected to be one of the favorites for these licenses without a partnership.
Needless to say, BetMGM is going to have a lot of competition for market share within Missouri. It’s expected that Missouri sports betting will be an active market.
Projections indicate that mobile sports betting is expected to make up 90% of all wagers placed within the state. With 14 sportsbooks potentially available at launch, there will be plenty of options for Missouri sports bettors to choose from.
Missouri also has a 10% tax rate, which is beneficial for operators, since this is lower than other states. Below is a table that shows a comparison of tax rates in selected states.
| State | Tax Rate |
|---|---|
| Missouri | 10% |
| Arizona | 10% |
| Colorado | 10% |
| Kansas | 10% |
| Maine | 10% |
| Michigan | 10% |
| Nevada | 10% |
| West Virginia | 10% |
| Wyoming | 10% |
| North Carolina | 18% |
| Ohio | 20% |
| New York | 51% |
As we can see here, Missouri is one of nine states to have a 10% tax rate, which is why there is likely to be over a dozen operators available in Missouri at launch. Missouri online sports betting is slated to generate millions in tax revenue.
It would have been more economically favorable if Missouri online sports betting launched in September, just in time for the NFL season. However, the December 1st launch date puts it on track to be available in time for the NFL playoffs, which is one of the busiest times of the sports betting calendar.
The market breakdown in Missouri in June 2025 is still unknown, but it’s likely that BetMGM will be among the leaders since it’s already established a partnership within the state.
