After Flutter recently delisted from the UK Stock Exchange to focus more on the US market, the company is optimistic that its flagship platform, FanDuel, will perform better during the upcoming NFL season. This comes after a challenging year for Flutter, where its stock has plummeted from approximately $218 to $96 per share since January. The optimism comes at a time when FanDuel is trying to maintain its market share amid the growing popularity of prediction markets, specifically Kalshi and Polymarket.
In a recent fireside chat hosted by Oppenheimer on August 11th, Flutter CEO Peter Jackson stated that he expects FanDuel to exceed projections of 5% year-over-year growth in US online sports betting revenue.
This isn’t a surprising projection, as the NFL season typically yields the best results for sportsbooks. The NFL is king when it comes to sports betting. Especially in the early parts of the season, betting activity tends to skyrocket. This means more user signups and more opportunities for revenue.
This is good news for FanDuel after what’s been a tumultuous year for the platform.
Within the fireside chat, FanDuel CFO Rob Coldrake stated that it’s a reasonable expectation that they will continue investing in the platform for the rest of the year. This would result in more promotions designed to improve user retention and new signups.
One example of this came during the World Cup, when FanDuel offered a promo on goals scored in games that were projected to be high-scoring. A promo like this can easily translate to the NFL, where FanDuel can offer bonuses on touchdowns in projected high-scoring games.
Even though FanDuel revenue declined during the World Cup, that was due to bettor-friendly outcomes. Promos like this can help build consumer trust, which can help FanDuel to remain at the top of the US market.
Even though Flutter shares have plummeted throughout the year, FanDuel remains alongside DraftKings at the top of the market in dozens of states across the country. The new challenge is how they can compete with prediction markets like Kalshi and Polymarket, which continue to grow in popularity.
FanDuel launched FanDuel Predicts in December 2025, so their hope is that by creating a prediction market platform of their own, they can be more sustainable in a competitive market that has added two giants in Polymarket and Kalshi.
Flutter CEO Peter Jackson has stepped down from his position. He will be replaced by Dan Taylor, effective October 1st, 2026. The hope for Flutter is that they will see positive trends from FanDuel’s sportsbook revenue just in time for this transition in leadership. This is especially the case since it will come after the first four weeks of the NFL season, which is a time of heavy betting activity.
