Massachusetts sports betting reported $525.5 million in sports betting handle for June, which was a substantial decrease from $645.7 million in May. Sports betting revenue also fell month-over-month from $79.9 million to $61.6 million. This decline is projected to continue through the summer months, since this is the slowest time of the sports betting calendar.
Examining Massachusetts sports betting results since June 2024 provides more context for this month’s decline.
June had the lowest sports betting handle in Massachusetts since August 2024. There was only a slight increase year-over-year from $500.7 million to $525.5 million. With what was reported in July 2024 ($405.2 million), there’s a reasonable chance that July will be an even slower month.
Sports betting revenue reported a marginally better result, with $61.6 million being only the second-lowest total of the year. There was a significant increase from June 2024, when only $41.1 million in revenue was reported.

While Massachusetts law allows for up to 15 online sportsbooks, there are no indications of other sportsbooks entering the market. For instance, despite being one of the most popular betting sites, bet365 withdrew its mobile betting license application within the state back in 2023.
With that in mind, market conditions should remain the same for the foreseeable future, allowing newer operators like Fanatics and ESPN BET to continue to grow in popularity.
