According to the Michigan Gaming Control Board, July was the slowest month of the year for sports betting handle at just over $350 million. However, this was a 25% year-over-year increase from last July, which is due to the fact that the World Cup was being played for the first half of the month. FanDuel and DraftKings continue to dominate market share in Michigan.
It’s no surprise to see that July was the least busy month of the year when it comes to sports betting handle, since this is typically a slow time of year.
In July, bettors can wager on MLB, WNBA, MLS, golf, and tennis, but the NFL, NHL, and NBA are still in the offseason. International soccer leagues like the EPL and La Liga also still haven’t kicked off. With the World Cup finishing in mid-July, there was a significant drop-off in betting activity.
While there will likely only be a modest increase, if any at all, in August, due to similar circumstances, there will be a major boom in September when the NFL and college football season kicks off. That’s among the most busy time of the year for American sports, so Michigan sportsbooks should see a major increase in sports betting handle.
FanDuel continues to lead the way in the Michigan market in July results, receiving $107 million in handle. DraftKings was only slightly behind at $99 million in handle. As is the case with many states across the country, FanDuel and DraftKings continue to be the clear-cut market leaders.
The two industry giants were followed by BetMGM ($41.1 million), Fanatics Sportsbook ($35.3 million), Caesars Sportsbook ($17.1 million), and theScore Bet ($11.2 million).
Michigan sports betting currently has the following operators:
The newest entrant to the Michigan market was bet365, which went live in April 2026. As one of the industry leaders, bet365 is expected to become more of a popular choice among Michigan sports bettors, despite not being in the top six operators in July sports betting handle.
With 13 regulated online sportsbooks, Michigan residents have a strong selection of betting sites, especially with bet365 recently entering the market. However, it’s worth noting that when bet365 launched in Michigan, it replaced PokerStars, which exited the market at the time.
Since bet365 replaced another operator rather than adding to the list, it’s unlikely that we’ll see any new sportsbooks set up shop in Michigan for the foreseeable future.
