Key Points
  • PA gross revenue for online slots surpassed $200M in March.
  • Online sportsbooks in Pennsylvania nearly doubled year-over-year hold.
  • March Madness falls further behind the NFL for online sports betting popularity.

For the first time in history, PA online slot revenue broke $200 million for a single month. According to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB), gross revenue for online slots in March 2026 totaled $201,363,554 on approximately $5.255 billion total wagers. The figures point to an estimated 96% Return to Player (RTP) rate, with regulated iGaming apps retaining just above 3.8% of overall spin bets.

The March 2026 gross revenue for online slots in the Keystone state represents a 12% increase year-over-year. Meanwhile, online table games, excluding competitive poker, cleared $51.1 million on $3 billion in cumulative wagers -– a gross revenue retention rate of 1.7% as players seek options with very little house edge.

Pennsylvania online sportsbooks increase YOY hold by seventy-seven percent

In a sign that online sports bettors are opting for Single Game Parlays (SGPs) and other auto-generated options, online sportsbooks in PA increased their YOY hold by 77% in March. Gross revenue after winning bets were paid jumped to $45.16 million, compared to just $25.56 million for March 2025.

Customers appear to be clicking (or tapping) on suggested wagers that are promoted exclusively by the sportsbook apps instead of the traditional method of searching for a specific game within an app’s menu. Online sportsbook hold in Pennsylvania equaled 6.4% after winning wagers were graded and promotions were applied, based on $700.65 million in total bets.

The statistics for online wagers make retail sports betting seem like a mere “drop in the bucket.” Retail sportsbooks in PA only grossed $917,097 for the month of March with total handle coming in at $30.2 million (a paltry “hold” rate of just three percent).

In short, online sports betting gross revenue in Pennsylvania, for the month of March, was 49 times greater than that of its retail counterpart.

March Madness popularity takes back seat to NFL regular season

For the second year in a row, PA online sports bettors have placed more wagers (in terms of monetary volume) during multiple months of the NFL regular season when compared to the month of March. Additionally, the gap appears to be widening based on Fiscal Year 2025/26 numbers.

Pennsylvania sportsbook apps took in 26% less in total volume versus a whopping $946.56 million in online bets that were placed during the month of November 2025.

Contrary to popular belief, PA online sportsbooks tend to have the largest volume during the months of October and November (as opposed to the NFL regular season finale and playoff months of December and January). This makes sense, as Fantasy Football players routinely join mid-season leagues that have starting dates coinciding with the NFL’s early November trade deadline.

The 2026 NBA playoff season has arrived

It will be interesting to see how the NBA playoffs impact Pennsylvania online sports betting market share throughout the months of April and May. However, those statistics won’t be released by the PGCB until June.
