A major driver of the overall increase in iGaming revenue was sports betting. Despite a lower handle (fewer bets) in April, sportsbooks still posted a massive jump in revenue. According to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, statewide sports wagering revenue rose 38.6% year over year to $58.9 million, even as total handle dipped nearly 10% to $641.5 million.
Much of the growth was driven by online sportsbooks, which generated more than $56.8 million in revenue during the month.
The lower sports betting handle was a bit surprising considering both the Philadelphia 76ers and Philadelphia Flyers were involved in the NBA and NHL playoffs. You would think that this would have meant more wagers, but that wasn’t the case in April. Despite that, sportsbooks had a profitable month in Pennsylvania.
Online casino gaming continued to be one of the biggest contributors to Pennsylvania’s overall gaming growth in April, reaching $245.7 million during the month, representing a 7.9% increase compared to April 2025.
Online slots remained the dominant vertical, generating more than $195.1 million in revenue statewide. Table games added another $48 million, while online poker contributed roughly $2.5 million.
Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course, which operates online brands including BetMGM and DraftKings, once again led all Pennsylvania operators with $93.6 million in total iGaming revenue, including more than $70.7 million from online slots alone. Valley Forge Casino Resort, home to FanDuel, followed with nearly $69.6 million in online casino revenue, while Rivers Casino Philadelphia and its partner BetRivers posted more than $40.6 million.
Several smaller operators also posted notable performances in April. Harrah’s Philadelphia, which partners with Caesars, generated more than $15 million in iGaming revenue, while Golden Nugget and its online platform surpassed $6.6 million. Parx Casino, which operates alongside betPARX, also topped $5 million in online casino revenue during the month.
April’s results reinforced Pennsylvania’s position as one of the largest sports betting markets in the United States. Even with total handle falling below $650 million for the month, Pennsylvania still generated nearly $59 million in sports betting revenue. This is a figure that many smaller markets struggle to reach even during peak football season.
The state continues to benefit from a strong mix of online sportsbook operators, with major brands such as FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM embedded in Pennsylvania.
Compared to newer betting markets, Pennsylvania has also shown an ability to maintain steady revenue growth even during slower parts of the sports calendar. States that rely heavily on NFL betting often see sharp declines during the spring months. However, Pennsylvania’s combination of online casino gaming and year-round sportsbook activity has created a more stable overall gaming ecosystem.
Another key difference is profitability. While some states continue prioritizing market share through aggressive promotions and bonus spending, Pennsylvania operators generated strong taxable revenue in April despite lower betting volume. That suggests sportsbooks are operating more efficiently in the Keystone State.
