According to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB), online gaming revenue was $558.7 million for April 2025, which was a 10.7% increase from April of last year. The main driver for this growth was online casinos, with an uptick of 31.3% year-on-year. Sports betting saw a modest gain of 0.3% from April 2024, but there are encouraging signs of increased popularity for a couple of operators.
Pennsylvania online casino revenue totaled $227.7 million in April, up from $173.4 million in April 2024. The total monthly revenue can be broken down as follows:
Compared to figures from 2024, slots and table game revenue went up 34.5% and 24.2%, respectively. The only decline was in poker, which went down 2.81% from last April.
Based on these figures, Pennsylvania’s annual online casino revenue shows clear growth, and a comparison of this revenue and sports betting revenue reveals that the former is growing at a faster rate.
Online and retail sportsbooks reported $42.5 million in revenue in the Keystone State, which was a fractional increase from $42.4 million last April.
The minor increase highlights a slower period in the sports betting calendar with NBA and NHL playoffs as the marquee events. It’s a time of year when it’s important for online casinos to carry the load for revenue growth.
The overall sports betting handle had more growth, getting up to $711.6 million, which was a 10.1% increase. Despite this uptick, the market leaders remain the same in Pennsylvania.
Below is a breakdown of online gaming market results in Pennsylvania for April.
| Operator | Handle | Revenue |
|---|---|---|
| FanDuel | $275.3 million | $20.3 million |
| DraftKings | $185.6 million | $12.1 million |
| BetMGM | $60.1 million | $1.5 million |
| Fanatics | $42 million | $1.2 million |
| BetRivers | $37.6 million | $1.3 million |
| ESPN BET | $32.2 million | $1.7 million |
Fanatics ranking ahead of long-time Pennsylvania operator BetRivers continues a trend of increasing popularity for this sportsbook. This was also the case in New York online sports betting, where Fanatics rose in April.
It’s also worth noting that ESPN BET had an interesting breakdown in April performance, finishing with $1.7 million in revenue even though they only had $32.2 million in handle. That was more revenue than both BetMGM and Fanatics.
This amounts to a 5.1% hold for ESPN BET, which could be viewed as a key indicator of growing popularity within Pennsylvania. One of their partners was a main influence behind this increase.
Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course is owned by Penn Entertainment Inc., which operates ESPN BET, featuring a retail sportsbook at this location. This was one of the most successful retail sportsbooks and casinos in Pennsylvania for April, earning $97.7 million in revenue, which was a 24.7% increase from April 2024.
This ranked 2nd in the state, behind only Valley Forge Casino Resort, which is affiliated with FanDuel. As the market leader in the state, it’s no surprise that FanDuel also has the most lucrative retail location. Even so, the fact that ESPN BET’s location was the second-most successful is another reason why this operator is likely to continue to grow in Pennsylvania. It will be interesting to see how revenue looks in the coming months.
