Mandatory Credit: Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports The New York Mets activated closer Edwin Diaz on Saturday after he served a 10-game suspension for violating MLB's policy on foreign substances.
The Mets, who continue their weekend series at the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday, also called up right-hander Eric Orze and optioned right-hander Ty Adcock to Triple-A Syracuse.
Before the suspension, the 30-year-old Diaz picked up two saves and a win after coming off the injured list on June 13 due to a shoulder injury. He is 2-1 with a 4.70 ERA on the year, with seven saves in 11 opportunities.
Orze, 26, the Mets' fifth-round pick in the 2020 draft, has yet to make his major league debut. He's was undefeated at Syracuse this season, posting a 3-0 record with a 3.76 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings over 26 games.
Adcock, 27, has a 14.54 ERA in three relief appearances for the Mets in 2024.
