The New York Mets activated outfielder Starling Marte from the 10-day injured list and inserted him starting lineup for Sunday's home game against the Miami Marlins.

Marte, who has been sidelined by a right knee bone bruise, is playing right field and batting fifth in the lineup for the Mets.

In a corresponding move, the Mets designated outfielder Ben Gamel for assignment.

Marte, 35, hasn't played for the Mets since June 22 and was placed on the injured list on June 25. Since 2021, he has played in fewer than 120 games each of the season.

In 66 games this season, Marte is hitting .278 with seven home runs and 30 RBIs. In 13 seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2012-20), Arizona Diamondbacks (2020), Marlins (2020-21), Oakland Athletics (2021) and Mets, Marte is a .287 hitter with 154 homers and 623 RBIs.

Marte is a two-time All-Star and two-time National League Gold Glove winner.

Gamel, 32, batted .217 (5-for-23) in 18 games this season for the Mets. He is a career .252 hitter with 40 home runs and 200 RBIs in parts of nine seasons with the New York Yankees (2016), Seattle Mariners (2016-18), Milwaukee Brewers (2019-20), Cleveland (2021), Pirates (2021-22), San Diego Padres (2023) and Mets.
