Michael Irvin's Selective Memory
This image was lost some time after publication, but you can still view it [object Object] . Yesterday, we were wondering when, exactly, ESPN found out about "analyst" Michael Irvin's arrest last week. Well, USA Today's intrepid Michael Hiestand talked to Bristol brass for today's paper, and it turns out, they found out Sunday, two days after the arrest ... but not from Irvin.
A reporter — not named — was the one who informed the network of Irvin's arrest, after he'd already appeared on "NFL Countdown." So far, though, Irvin is scheduled to remain on the network, no problemos. Handsomely named ESPN exec Norby Williamson tells Hiestand, "Right now we take Michael at his word. ... And we're there to deal with him as he deals with this." We appreciate the "right now" in that sentence; it's a great stand-in for "until we finally get confirmed that he's full of it."
