New Juventus Signing Pays €10,000 To Make It To His First Training Session On Time
Being as it's Friday, footballers all over the planet are currently, or soon to be, preparing to spend the thousands of pounds/euros/dollars they've earned this week on getting up to no good.
Not Juventus' new signing Milos Krasic, however. He'll be doing something sensible with his cash, like investing it in gold or something. (We're not sensible enough ourselves to be entirely sure.)
Demonstrating commendable use of his wealth and a level of professionalism that would have most supporters perfectly accepting of the millions swilling around football if every other player took the same approach, the 25-year-old Serbian winger shelled out €10,000 to charter a private jet on Monday - just so he could make it to his first training session on time.
Krasic had originally meant to be catching a plane to Italy which had been pre-booked by Juventus, but missed the flight after failing to get the necessary papers to enter the country in time. (The Italian embassy in Belgrade was closed for refurbishment. Srsly.)
The next available commercial flight landed at 6pm - by which time his new teammates would have already packed up and left training. So, rather than putting headphones in and kicking his heels for the next couple of hours, the irrepressible Krasic splashed out on a private jet from Belgrade to Torino and then drove from the airport direct to Juve's training ground in Villar Perosa.
Sporting director Giuseppe Marotta was suitably impressed by the whole affair, as he gushed: "I really couldn't believe he'd do this type of thing."
Thoroughly admirable behaviour in The Spoiler's books. Regardless of the carbon footprint.
