No. 1 Ohio State snaps Washington’s 22-game home streak in Big Ten opener
Ohio State Buckeyes defensive end Kenyatta Jackson Jr. (97) celebrates a sack of Washington Huskies quarterback Demond Williams Jr. (2) during the first half of the NCAA football game at Husky Stadium in Seattle on Sept. 27, 2025. Julian Sayin passed for 208 yards and two touchdowns and CJ Donaldson scored twice as No. 1 Ohio State ended Washington's 22-game home winning streak with a 24-6 victory in Seattle on Saturday.
The Huskies (3-1, 0-1 Big Ten) led the Buckeyes (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) 3-0 before Ohio State took a 7-3 halftime led thanks to an 18-yard TD catch by Jeremiah Smith with 1:08 remaining.
A Donaldson 1-yard run extended Ohio State's lead to 14-3 midway through the third quarter before Grady Gross kicked his second 28-yard field goal to make it 14-6.
The Buckeyes then countered with a Jayden Fielding 34-yard field goal early in the fourth to go ahead 17-6.
On a fourth-and-1 from the 4, Donaldson's touchdown reception made it 24-6 with 4:56 remaining in the game.
Sayin completed 22 of 28 while Smith made eight catches for 81 yards.
Washington was second nationally averaging 55.7 points while the Buckeyes were tied with BYU for the fewest points allowed (5.2).
Washington standout cornerback Tacario Davis did not play because of an injury but Ohio State was unable to take advantage until its final drive of the first half when the Buckeyes used 10 plays to go 73 yards after a botched fake field-goal attempt by the Huskies.
Receiver Brandon Inniss, whose lost fumble after a 32-yard punt return to the Huskies' 21 led to Washington moving down the field for a 28-yard field goal by Gross for a 3-0 lead less than a minute into the second quarter, had two receptions of 11 yards during the drive.
On third-and-11, Sayin found Smith open on a crossing route at the line of scrimmage and he went unimpeded into the end zone.
Washington QB Demond Williams Jr. completed 11 of 12 for 102 yards through two quarters but the Huskies defense was the story, stopping the Buckeyes on a fourth-and-1 from the Washington 5 on their first series of the game.
Williams finished 18 of 22 for 173 yards.
