Jabeur, 30, made the announcement on social media, saying tennis isn't making her happy.
The Tunisian, who ranked No. 2 in the world on June 27, 2022, currently is No. 71. On the season, she is 15-15 and was eliminated in the first round at both the French Open and Wimbledon. She retired in her match at Wimbledon against Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria after a long medical timeout.
"For the past two years, I've been pushing myself so hard, fighting through injuries and facing many other challenges. But deep down, I haven't truly felt happy on the court for some time now," she posted to X.
"Tennis is such a beautiful sport. But right now, I feel it's time to take a step back and finally put myself first: to breathe, to heal, and to rediscover the joy of simply living."
