We’ve reached crunch time in Group B of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and nothing less than a win will be enough for Bosnia and Qatar when the sides face off at Seattle Stadium on Wednesday. The current group standings have Canada and Switzerland locked together on four points after two games, with both Bosnia and Qatar a further three points behind. But whilst that situation may appear bleak, the new tournament format means that whoever wins Wednesday’s showdown in Seattle will almost certainly qualify for the last 32.
Halfway through the second half of their Matchday Two contest against Switzerland, Bosnia looked to be on course to claim (at least) a point against the group favorites. However, a dramatic late collapse saw them ship four goals, plus have defender Tarik Muharemovic sent off for a rash challenge. The only consolation for Sergei Barbarez’s side was a thumping injury-time volley from Ermin Mahmic, but overall, this was a game to forget for Bosnia, and it has put a huge dent in their qualification hopes.
A bright start followed by a disappointing ending was also the story of Bosnia’s opening matchup against Canada. An early Jovo Lukic header appeared to set Bosnia on the path to victory, but slack defending late on allowed Cyle Larin to equalize for the hosts. Unless Barbarez can get his team performing for the full 90 minutes, it is hard to see them making a deep run in the competition.
Qatar started their campaign by claiming their first-ever World Cup point, as a heroic display from keeper Mahmoud Abunada, plus a dramatic injury-time header from Boualem Khoukhi, allowed them to claim an unlikely point against a Switzerland side that were utterly dominant for large parts of the game.
However, a dreadful Matchday Two display from the Qatari’s saw them suffer a humiliating 6-0 reverse against Canada. To compound matters for manager Julen Lopetegui, Qatar finished the game with just nine men, as both Homam El Amin and Assim Madibo received red cards. With both of those key players suspended, Lopetegui now faces a huge selection headache ahead of the biggest game in Qatar’s footballing history.
The latest Kalshi prediction markets give Bosnia a 68% chance of taking the victory, whilst the likelihood of Qatar claiming three points is currently just 14% and the draw is rated at 18%. We’ve been closely following the World Cup prediction markets at Kalshi ahead of this crunch encounter, so here are our expert predictions for the matchup:
Whilst Bosnia have hardly set the tournament alight in their opening two games, their performances have been at least one level above anything produced by Qatar so far. Aside from the late collapse against Switzerland, Bosnia have been tough to break down in their opening two games, and Qatar’s limp attack seems highly unlikely to cause them too many problems in Seattle. Because of those factors, we are confident that not only will Bosnia record a vital victory on Wednesday night, but they will do so by a clear margin.
It’s fair to say that Bosnia’s first half displays have been stronger than their second half efforts in their opening two games. It’s also true that Qatar have been incredibly slow starters in both of their first two contests, especially during a dismal first half effort against Canada. As such, we fully expect the Europeans to come out of the blocks fast on Wednesday and establish an early lead.
In their first two games, Qatar have registered a grand total of three shots on target. Simply put, Qatar have one of the weakest forward lines in the competition, so there is little to suggest that they will produce much attacking threat in their final game. When you also take into account Bosnia’s relatively strong defence, we think that the chances of both teams scoring in this game are pretty slim.
