I’m viewing this as a buying opportunity on the Lynx to win the WNBA Championship. With their price split in half, we can now find better value on the best team in the WNBA. Remember, the Lynx were 2nd in Offensive Rating and 4th in Defensive Rating this year, so they’re an extremely well-balanced team.
Yes, the Lynx are now facing elimination down 1-0 in a best-of-three series vs. the Liberty, but they’re still favored to win on the road in Game 2. I think we’ll see a bounce-back with the team getting back on track for a deep run.
The Aces looked terrific in Game 1 of WNBA postseason action, blowing out the Fever in a 102-85 win. A’ja Wilson led the way with an incredible performance, dropping 38 points with 16 rebounds. Jackie Young added 21 points with 10 assists. This team looks like a well-oiled machine right now.
Vegas came into the postseason on an extremely high note, having won seven in a row before this lopsided victory vs. the Fever.
Having won three of the last four WNBA Championships, the Aces have now established themselves as the clear-cut team to beat, although if you’re buying into them now, you’re buying high, since they were as low as 14% only a few weeks ago.
I’m not giving up on the Lynx just because of one bad loss at home. This has been the best team in the WNBA all year long, and now we’re getting a much better price at 23%, especially when you compare it to the 46% it was at only a few weeks ago.
We saw guards Olivia Miles and Courtney Williams shoot a combined 6-for-24 from the field in that Game 1 loss, which is unsustainable, since they each shot at a 45% clip during the season. Bet on a bounce-back from them in Game 2.
If they can survive this scare vs. the Liberty, we could see the Lynx get back on track and move their way up the board once again. To that end, it’s a great time to buy low on the top team in the WNBA.
The Valkyries blew out the Wings 104-80 in Game 1, continuing to play like an absolute juggernaut. They came into the playoffs in top form, having won 22 of their last 27 games.
This is a team that is tough to score against, as they’re 1st in Defensive Rating. There’s so much depth on this roster, with a well-rounded group that has seven players averaging at least seven points. It’s balanced scoring here, as the leading scorer is at 14.4 PPG in Gabby Williams.
That kind of depth along with stifling defense makes the Valkyries a tough opponent. They have the pieces in place for a deep run.
As mentioned earlier, it’s a really close race, so we have to mention some other teams. The Dream (20%) blew out the Mystics in Game 1. The Liberty (14%) shocked the Lynx and have them on the ropes, facing elimination. Each of these two teams are viable contenders given how well they’ve played lately.
