The New York Liberty (20-13) are rounding into form as they get set for a road game against the Indiana Fever (20-12). This is an intriguing game between the No. 2 and No. 4 seeds in the Eastern Conference.
When these teams last met on July 18th, the Fever won 108-88 in a blowout victory. It will be interesting to see if the Liberty can make this one more competitive, even though it’ll be a tough spot on the road. Considering these circumstances, let’s try to find value at prediction market apps.
The Fever are priced at 58 cents to win this game. This makes sense considering they beat the Liberty by 20 points in their last meeting. Indiana is playing good basketball of late, winning seven of their last 10 games. However, five of those games came against teams that were below .500.
The Liberty have also won seven of their last 10 games, currently on a four-game winning streak. This is highlighted by an impressive 111-71 win over the Las Vegas Aces (22-11) in their last game. Liberty guard Marine Johannes dropped 27 points off the bench in that dominant win.
I’m taking Indiana to win by over 3.5 points: No, which is essentially Liberty +3.5 in this game. I’m not too concerned by the fact that they lost by 20 to the Fever in their last meeting.
That was a game that the Liberty actually led at halftime before collapsing in the second half. Indiana got hot from beyond the arc, going 14-of-28 from three-point range, which is unsustainable.
Look for Breanna Stewart and company to put forth a much better effort here in a game that could come down to the wire. We’ve seen late market movement towards the Liberty here, which has me feeling like this is the sharper side.
It’s worth noting that the Liberty’s blowout win over the Aces was a game where Vegas rested several key starters, including A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray, and Jackie Young.
The Liberty recently released guard Benijah Laney-Hamilton while signing guard Marine Fauthoux.
The WNBA recently rescinded Caitlin Clark’s 8th technical foul, which would have suspended her for this game against the Liberty. It was determined that her momentum is what caused her to bump into the referee, so it wasn’t worth a foul.
Fever head coach Stephanie White was also given a technical for defending Clark during the incident, but this foul was not rescinded.
Early this morning, the Fever were as high as 61.5% favorites for this game, but they’re currently priced at 58 cents, as the Liberty have seen a late surge. Perhaps this is due to how well they’ve been playing recently. Indiana to win by more than 3.5 points was at 53 cents this morning, but that has moved to 47 cents.
With the Liberty seeing some late steam, I’m riding with them to keep this one close.
