It’s not often that you see a relatively large trading percentage jump on a Kalshi market just because one player switched teams. But that’s exactly what has occurred within the 2026-27 NFL Defensive Player of the Year market.
Myles Garrett, the former defensive anchor for the Cleveland Browns, officially became a member of the Los Angeles Rams earlier this month when LA agreed to a blockbuster trade that saw it part ways with Jared Verse. The actual “change of scenery” managed to change the minds of quite a few prediction market forecasters, who now believe Garrett is the frontrunner to win another NFL DPOY title.
Once upon a time, competitive NFL teams referred to the blue-and-gold as the “same ol’ sorry Rams,” but that changed at the turn of the 21st Century when Kurt Warner led the “best show on turf” to a Super Bowl victory. Los Angeles hoisted their second Lombardi Trophy in 2022, and are now considered to be one of the perennial top teams in the league. Enter Myles Garrett, who is expected to give QB Matt Stafford extra possessions through his relentless end pressure and ability to make opposing offenses go three-and-out.
We find it extremely hard to argue with the logic that Kalshi traders are using to elevate Garrett’s 2026-27 NFL DPOY price. Even at 23¢ per contract, the former Texas A&M standout is a value pick if there ever was such a thing. It makes a world of difference when you’re performing for a legitimate opportunity to win a Super Bowl (as opposed to playing for the flailing Cleveland Browns).
We’re picking up all the “yes” options on Myles Garrett to repeat as the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year – as long as the price per contract remains under 25 cents.
Green Bay Packers defensive end Micah Parsons won’t be bringing his “Stick City” talent for Cheeseheads fans to enjoy until October at the earliest, which most likely means he’ll be out of contention for any yearly performance awards. That leaves Will Anderson Jr. of the Houston Texans as the most likely player (other than Garrett) to win the DPOY award this year.
Ironically, Anderson was listed as a very slight favorite for DPOY until June 1st, when the Los Angeles Rams announced they had acquired Myles Garrett. Forming just one part of an otherwise gifted defense makes a massive difference in terms of how opposing offensive linemen prepare their gameplans.
If you’re a clear standout (even one as talented as Myles Garrett), offenses can create double-team opportunities and use running backs to pick up the obvious star player much more effectively. That said, Myles Garrett actually won DPOY last year as part of the Cleveland Browns, so traders are anticipating even more QB pressure applied by Garrett this year.
Again, the big story focuses on Myles Garrett. He was listed at just 11 cents per contract on Kalshi less than three weeks ago. It’s too bad we didn’t pick him up then.
Look for the Los Angeles Rams to qualify for postseason play once again in 2026. And look for Myles Garrett to stand out as the primary reason QB Matt Stafford has more average possessions per game to work with.
