The NHL Western Conference Finals took a dramatic turn Sunday night as the Vegas Golden Knights overcame a three goal deficit to put the Colorado Avalanche one game away from elimination. The final score was 5-3, and now moves the Golden Knights into a favorable position in which they can potentially sweep Colorado this Tuesday.
Momentum appeared to be in favor of the Avalanche during Game 3, especially after they jumped out to a 3-0 lead and won a replay ruling that waved-off an apparent Vegas goal. But the Golden Knights went on to score 5 unanswered, starting with a power play score by team captain Mark Stone.
There is a lot of prediction market trading volume from Avalanche believers on Kalshi at the moment. This places the per-contract price of a Golden Knights Game 4 victory at just 48 cents, which we would gobble up in a heartbeat. Colorado had its best chance of the series to make the NHL Western Conference Finals competitive, and had already blown it by the second intermission.
Vegas goalie Carter Hart was nothing short of sensational for the first two games of the series. Despite the temporary hiccup during the 1st Period of Game 3, we like the 31-cent contract on the Golden Knights winning a decisive Game 4 by more than 1.5 goals.
For truly adventurous traders, the odds for a Vegas victory exceeding 2.5 goals is priced at 18 cents.
The Colorado Avalanche could face elimination Tuesday night without Nathan MacKinnon and Valeri Nichuskin. Colorado head coach Jared Bednar seemed at a loss in Sunday night’s post-event press conference, citing the “shorter bench” the Avalanche will have to contend with if neither player is cleared for Game 4.
Facing a series sweep, the NHL’s highest scoring offense during the regular season, will have to pull out all the stops in order to increase their odds of making the Stanley Cup Finals. For the Golden Knights, Mark Stone proved Sunday night that he has fully recovered from the injury that kept him out of previous playoff games – so Vegas is expected to have their full roster healthy for Game 4.
The final series score of 4-0, meaning VGK will sweep the WCF, has inched upward to just over 50 cents per contract. A 4-1 series win for Vegas is available for 23 cents while downward pressure on a 4-2 series victory has taken that line’s price down to just 16 cents. The sweep price is a bit unbalanced when compared to the Game 4 forecasts, which currently show the Golden Knights as a very slight underdog.
If you’re unable to attend Game 4 live Tuesday night at T-Mobile Arena, you can catch all the action on ESPN as it happens. The puck drops at 6:00pm local time (9:00pm Eastern). If the Golden Knights win Tuesday, they advance to the Stanley Cup Finals to face either Carolina or Montreal. If the Avalanche win, Game 5 will be played Thursday at Ball Arena in Denver.
