Red Sox, Yankees Put On A Brawl
Just a few hours after baseball’s last benches-clearing brawl, here’s another solid one for you. The Red Sox and Yankees got into a tussle in the seventh inning tonight, after Boston’s Joe Kelly hit Tyler Austin in retaliation for a spikes-up slide earlier in the game. Austin slammed his bat down, Kelly motioned for him to come in and show him how he really felt, and then they were off:
Kelly and Austin were ejected, along with Yankees third base coach Phil Nevin.
There’s not an individual moment here that’s quite as strong as Freddy Galvis’s emphatic glove-toss from today’s Padres-Rockies fight, but this video does give a most excellent look at the best part of any baseball fight: the relievers’ dutiful jog in from the bullpen, keeping a respectable distance from the other team’s relief corps, as they all make their way to a fight that they know will inevitably be nearly over by the time they can get there at all.
