Soccer Manager Goes After Referee, Is Held Back By Riot Police
Montevideo Wanderers manager Alfredo Arias had to be held back by riot shield-bearing police following his team’s loss to Argentine side Racing Club in the second leg of tonight’s Copa Libertadores match.
Arias appeared to be upset about the meager three minutes of stoppage time allotted by the referee; Wanderers needed only to score an equalizer in the match to gain the aggregate edge on away goals. Their first goal of the match came on this golazo in the 89th minute:
Arias was already storming toward referee Wilmar Roldan before the final whistle blew. It’s an explosive lead-in to the Superclásico which is getting underway right now.
