Texas Tech Beats Texas On Trick Play Touchdown
For the first time since 1997, Texas Tech beat Texas in Austin last night in a 48-45 thriller. The Red Raiders sealed the deal with this rather clever bit of misdirection and running by Jakeem Grant, who has a history of spectacular runs. Coach Kliff Kingsbury said last night that the play is called “Little People, Big World”, and when you compare the sizes of Grant and the offensive lineman he hid behind to take the direct snap, it’s pretty evident why. I’m not sure Texas even saw the lil’ guy down there.
This loss most likely drops Texas from bowl contention. They are 4-7, in need of a win against Baylor in Waco next weekend to have at least a shot. As for Texas Tech, they finished their third season under Kliff Kingsbury with a 7-5 record in the regular season. Earlier in the game, Grant passed Wes Welker and Michael Crabtree to take possession of the Red Raiders’ all time receiving yards record.
