Ryan Howard’s solo shot in the sixth inning was the only run of the game as Philadelphia earned a 1-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday.
Phillies starter Aaron Nola worked his way through seven scoreless innings while striking out seven and allowing just two hits and one walk. Hector Neris pitched a flawless eighth inning, and Jeanmar Gomez closed out the game for his ninth save of the season.
Cardinals right-hander Michael Wacha, who had eight strikeouts in eight innings, credited Nola for his performance. “Some days you’ve got to go out there and match zeroes,” Wacha told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The Cardinals are one game under .500 with a record of 13-14. There’s always the next game!
