The Cardinals Lost Their Sixth Game
The Chicago Cubs shut out the St. Louis Cardinals in a 5-0 win Monday. Cardinals starter Mike Leake had six innings of one-run ball before everything fell apart in the seventh.
After Leake allowed two singles to Kris Bryant and Miguel Montero, shortstop Aledmys Diaz’s error on what should have been Jorge Soler’s RBI groundout prevented any chance of St. Louis getting an out. The bottom of the Cubs’ order took advantage: Addison Russell hit a sacrifice fly to score the team’s third run, and starting pitcher John Lackey had an RBI single for a 4-0 lead. Leake was tagged with the loss and three earned runs.
Lackey had a solid game against his former team. The right-hander notched 11 strikeouts over seven innings while allowing only four hits and one walk.
The Cardinals have committed an MLB-leading 15 errors in 13 games. There’s always the next game!
