The Fight To Lose To Detroit Ends Tonight
This image was lost some time after publication. This photo is from the 2004 National League Championship Series, in which Jeff Suppan outdueled Roger Clemens — and laid down a perfect squeeze bunt, for good measure — to send the Cardinals to the World Series, where they went to Boston and ... well, we don't remember much after that.
It's Suppan who is charged with either sending to the Cardinals to another World Series, or sending them into what would could be a radically dynamic offseason. And he's facing Oliver Perez, and we would have found it more likely at the beginning of the season that Josh Towers would start a Game 7 than Oliver Perez. But here we are.
We're not going to the game, but we can't sit around the apartment and watch this, because our heart will explode. So play along in the comments if you'd like. We'll see you afterwards, covered in sweat, tears or both.
