There Are No Duke Basketball Tickets Here! Now Go Away!
This image was lost some time after publication. The politics of exclusion permeates many cities, and the sleepy hamlet of Krzyzewskiville is no exception. You've heard of Krzyzewskiville; the campus tent city set up by Duke students each winter to wait in line for basketball tickets to Cameron Indoor Stadium. But this season, residents have gone all Pat Buchanan, taking measures to stop rampant illegal immigration. It seems that the Robertson Scholars, a group of North Carolina students who are attending classes at both universities, have been banned from Krzyzewskiville. The shocking details from MSNBC:
Participants are supposed to have full student privileges on both campuses, including access to athletic events. But last season, a group of Robertson scholars from UNC went to the Tar Heels-Blue Devils game at Duke and sat in the student section wearing Carolina blue. So Duke's student senate voted last month to bar UNC's Robertson scholars from Krzyzewskiville.
The Duke administration actually disagrees with the students' actions, but is seemingly powerless to stop them. That's right; the president of Duke has no authority in Krzyzewskiville, a lawless place where Dick Vitale is worshiped as a god, and worn, tattered Christian Laettner posters are used as currency. Lord help us all.
