Mandatory Credit: Steven Branscombe-Imagn Images Trevin Knell scored 15 points to lead BYU to a 68-49 victory over Wyoming in Salt Lake City on Saturday.
Mawat Mag and Dawson Baker added 11 points apiece off the bench for the Cougars. BYU finished with 37 bench points.
Knell, Mag and Baker combined to make eight 3-pointers to power the Cougars' offense.
BYU (8-2) went 9-for-20 from 3-point range and shot 52.2 percent from the field. The Cougars were equally tough to defend inside, outscoring Wyoming 24-18 in the paint.
BYU has won 15 straight games in the series with Wyoming dating back to the 2004-05 season when the teams both played in the Mountain West Conference. The Cougars also improved to 19-1 in their last 20 games played at the Delta Center.
Obi Agbim led Wyoming with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Jordan Nesbitt added seven for the Cowboys. Wyoming (5-5) lost its fourth straight game after trailing wire to wire.
Egor Demin missed a second straight game with a knee contusion. Demin, who leads BYU in scoring and assists, injured the knee in the Cougars' loss to Providence on Dec. 3. The Cougars also lost Richie Saunders a minute into Saturday's game after he suffered a lip contusion. Mag replaced Saunders in the starting lineup to begin the second half.
Being down two starters didn't disrupt BYU's ability to dominate Wyoming on both ends of the court.
BYU scored the game's first 11 points thanks to three baskets from Knell over a two-minute stretch and led by at least nine points throughout the first half. Wyoming went scoreless for six minutes late in the half, but cut the deficit to 34-25 going into halftime following a 3-pointer from Agbim.
The Cowboys could not rally any closer after halftime. BYU built a 59-39 lead with 8:16 left when Baker fueled a 12-4 run with three baskets, culminating in a 3-pointer to beat the shot clock.
