Twitter Aficionado Osi Umenyiora Promises To Buy Lawrence Taylor's Super Bowl Ring If He Gets One Million Followers
This Osi Umenyiora guy is a weird cat. A week after calling LeSean McCoy a woman on twitter as an insult, he is now pledging to buy Lawrence Taylor's 1991 Super Bowl ring that is currently being auctioned off, but only if he gets one million followers. Initially he said the millionth follower would get to give the ring back to LT but he soon realized that gave people zero incentive to follow him until he got to 999,999 followers. Which he does not have. He later reduced the number to 500,000.
Anyway, it seems altruistic, I guess. But why beg for the Twitter followers and make it a requirement to helping out a Giants alum? It sounds like LT had no idea the ring was being auctioned by his son and is kind of bummed about it.
Taylor, meanwhile, was still coming to terms with the fact that his Super Bowl ring, which he won at the end of the 1990-91 season when the Giants defeated the Buffalo Bills in the title game, was even up for auction.
A longtime representative of Taylor told FOX Sports' Jay Glazer on Friday that the former NFL linebacker had given the championship ring to his son TJ who could do whatever he wanted with it.
"Lawrence was in fact unaware of it but said he gave it to TJ and it's his right to do what he wants with it. He's fine with whatever TJ decided," Mark Lepselter told Glazer.
What is Osi's end game here? Will the high follower count make him feel better about something? Is he compensating for a deficit somewhere else? Like, say, not having a penis? Making him, like, a woman?
The current bid, according to the New York Post is $108,378. The auction ends this evening. the deadline to follow Osi is 10:00 p.m. Giants' Umenyiora offers to buy back LT's Super Bowl ring [NY Post]
