WTA roundup: Teen Laura Samson bounces Katerina Siniakova in Prague

Teen Laura Samson upset fellow Czech Katerina Siniakova at the Livesport Prague Open, defeating the No. 2 seed 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 on Tuesday.

With her hometown fans watching, Samson, 16, is playing in her first WTA tournament this week and her 11th pro event. She had not played an opponent ranked in the Top 200 before facing Siniakova, ranked No. 38.

In the quarterfinals, the No. 634 Samson will take on Russian Oksana Selekhmeteva, a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Kathinka von Deichmann of Liechtenstein. Others to advance Tuesday included top-seeded Czech Linda Noskova and sixth seed Magdalena Frech of Poland, both by walkover, third-seeded Anhelina Kalinina of the Ukraine, fourth-seeded Magda Linette of Poland and fifth-seeded Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria.


UniCredit Iasi Open

Top seed Mirra Andreeva needed just 73 minutes to cruise to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus in Iasi, Romania.

The Russian didn't face a break point while capitalizing on four of her eight chances to break Sasnovich's serve.

Another Russian, fifth-seeded Elina Avanesyan, advanced to the quarterfinals, as did Anna Bondar of Hungary, the eighth seed. Other winners were Lea Boskovic of Croatia, Serbian Olga Danilovic and Selena Janicijevic of France.
