Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images The New York Yankees selected the contract of right-hander Cam Schlittler from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, while right-hander Geoff Hartlieb was designated for assignment.
Schlittler, 24, will make his major league debut when he starts Wednesday at home against the Seattle Mariners. The seventh-round draft pick in 2022 is a combined 6-6 with a 2.82 ERA in 15 appearances (14 starts) combined at Double-A and Triple-A this season.
The vacancy in the Yankees' rotation was created when Clarke Schmidt went on the injured list with a forearm strain. Schmidt will likely undergo Tommy John surgery.
Hartlieb, 31, allowed six runs in just two appearances (1 1/3 innings) with the Yankees. In six seasons with five different clubs, he is 1-1 with a 7.92 ERA in 66 relief appearances.
