Yankees Sign Jacoby Ellsbury To Seven-Year Deal, Because They Can

The New York Yankees have reportedly signed Jacoby Ellsbury, because eat it. They don't care. The Yankees get who they want. (Unless it's Cliff Lee.)

Jon Heyman reported that Ellsbury and the Yankees had agreed to a seven-year deal which would be larger than Carl Crawford's seven-year, $142 million deal with the Red Sox, and it was. Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News added that Ellsbury's deal, pending a physical, would total at $153 million. The deal with the outfielder's former employer's rivals will run until Ellsbury's 37.

It never really seemed like Ellsbury would re-sign with the Red Sox, as he—along with his agent Scott Boras—and Boston didn't get anywhere with an extension. Now, Red Sox fans can call Ellsbury a traitor, even though anyone would be stupid to deny the insane amount of money the Yankees just gave a 30-year-old outfielder who's missed substantial amounts of time to injuries in two of his last four seasons.
