Mandatory Credit: Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports The New York Yankees activated designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton off the 10-day injured list on Monday, hours before opening a three-game road series with the Philadelphia Phillies, who own the majors' best record (65-40).
In a corresponding move, center fielder Jahmai Jones, 26, was designated for assignment. In 33 games with the Yankees this season, Jones is hitting .238 with one home run and four RBIs.
Stanton was placed on the IL on June 23 with a strained left hamstring after injuring himself rounding third base during the Yankees' 8-3 home win over the Atlanta Braves the previous night.
The designated hitter was not assigned any rehab games, but the Yankees monitored Stanton over the weekend to make sure the former MVP was healthy enough to return.
Stanton, 34, is batting .246 with 18 home runs and 45 RBIs in 69 games this season.
Following their three-game series win against the Red Sox in Boston over the weekend, the Yankees have gone 10-18 while hitting .247 since Stanton's latest injury. Entering Monday, they trailed the first-place Baltimore Orioles by one game in the American League East.
