Three USA Gymnastics Board Members Resign
Photo credit: David J. Phillip/ [object Object] Former Michigan State and USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar will spend the rest of his life in prison for the years of sexual abuse he committed against scores of gymnasts in his care, but so far, the people and institutions who enabled him have faced very few consequences. That changed slightly today, when USA Gymnastics announced that three of its board members are stepping down.
Those resigning are Chairman Paul Parilla, Vice Chairman Jay Binder, and Treasurer Bitsy Kelley.
Last summer, an independent review of USA Gymnastics’ mishandling of the Nassar case concluded that the organization needed to undergo a “complete cultural change” in order to prevent similar mistakes being made in the future. Many of Nassar’s victims, most notably Aly Raisman, have been highly critical of the organization and have advocated for even further investigations into its failings.
