With the tournament starting and everything, we thought it would be time to make it clear that baseball is about to start. (Not just in Japan either. Finally.) And we can think of no better way of reminding you than bringing up Vin Scully.
Sometimes we find that Los Angelenos have differing views of Vin Scully, probably because they hear him more often and he's very old. But we think it's pretty amazing when Scully just does the games by himself, no analyst, just him talking.
And we wish Jack Buck were still alive so we could put him on one of these.

I would approve, but I'm pretty sure he crashed Deadspin by refusing to liveblog with a partner.
This rating brought to you by delicious Armour hot dogs!
I can do the Hully-Gully; I can imitate Vin Scully!
I disapprove - I very clearly remember him making anti-Mets statements in 1986 while calling games.
Class Act.
No joke, so I'll just show myself out.
....approve? I don't see where this is an issue of yes/no.
Vin Scully's call of the last three outs of Sandy Koufax's perfect game (transcribed) is so perfect that it's hard to imagine any mortal coming up with it on the spot.
Vin Scully knows something other announcers don't: when to shut up and let the game tell the story. Approve.
". . .aaaaaaaaaand here come the pretzels!"
Approve.
Approve. And I'm a Giants fan.
Seriously, who would disapprove of this man?
Who?
Oh well, approve.
The Disaprovers also reject both America and apple pie.
@BigTenObsession: I'm a Mets fan, and I think you should be deported for this.
Vin Scully is still alive?
Vin Scully is everything that is right with America, nay the Entire World. Those who disapprove should be beaten with sticks.
Vin Scully is the best baseball broadcaster ever.
And I fucking hate the Dodgers.
Every time I hear the audio of the ball going through Buckner's legs, I realize how much I miss the way things used to be with Vin & Joe G.
Just a baseball game with no shitty Fox sound effects or animation or endless plugs for whatever new crap scripted show or reality series they shove down our faces every October---APPROVE!!
No seriously, Vin Scully is still alive?
The 19 of you who (so far) have disapproved: You are Satan's ass pus.
Meh, he's no Bob Uecker*.
*grew up on Bob, never heard Vin
@UeckersEats< p>
The Brewers broadcast team of Uek & Jim Powell basically do the came thing Vin does--1 guy goes solo for a couple of innings while the other guy shuts the FUCK UP! It's very refreshing, especially compared to the CUBS team of Hughes & Santo who dumb it down so much they sound like they're talking to only eight or eighty year-old people (and they very well could be)...
Uecker is actually really good, but he's no Scully. Marty Brennaman would still be great if he didn't hate baseball so much.
I also like the Phillies broadcaster who's not Harry Kalas or the other guy.
@VTBen: GabboGabboGabbooo!!!!!!!!!!!!
If Gabbo can do the hully gully and imitate Vin Scully, can Vin Scully do the hully gully and imitate Gabbo?
Even if not, this is an easy approve.
Is this the biggest approval margin in the short history of the MARs?
I admit - I did not like Scully much on NBC's Game of the Week. Maybe it was the medium, maybe working with an analyst, I don't know.
But he gets an approval for still getting it done after all these years.
If I had power to grant immortality to one person, my choice is Vin Scully.
Approve.
Anyone who votes no is either a communist or a Giants fan, and probably both.
Vin's a fine announcer, but NBC had him calling the 1985 NLCS (Cards over Dodgers). He was so much of a homer in that series that by the end of it I swear he was implying that most of the Cardinal players were felons. This was after Keith Hernandez had gone to the Mets, so that was pretty unfair.
One Million Percent Approved.
But for Jack Buck, Scully would be the greatest baseball announcer these ears have had the pleasure of hearing.
Not my fave when he was with Joe Garagedooropener back in the day, but he's fine now. (Used to like Kubek and Costas better then, actually.)
Vinnie's also GREAT on the radio. Better than on TV, actually.
Approve!
@Publitor: I am a Giants fan (but more of an Socialist than a Communist), and I approved Vin Scully. My wife worked for a PR agency that had dealings with an LA city disaster preparedness office. They commissioned a poll to the effect of "Whose voice would you trust the most giving you important information in case of emergency?" Vin won, and it wasn't even close.
I guess what I'm saying is that Vin could even make a horrific, deadly earthquake enjoyable.
35 people have voted against?
I don't believe what I just saw.
I'm an Angels fan (and obviously a Dodger hater) and I vigorously approve. All of those people who voted against Vin are idiots.
Those who disapprove of Vin Scully disapprove of baseball.
If you don't vote "Approve," the terrorists win...
No can do. His blatant Mets hating during the '86 series made him a non-person for life in my book.
yeah, but "here comes Knight and the Mets win it" is a great call. I still use it on all my friends who are Sox fans.
Does Ernie Harwell get a Media Approval Rating? He's no longer actively calling games... But he's best I've heard (& I've heard Scully, who I approve as well).
I still think CBS Radio or whoever does the playoffs on radio should bring EH back to do the games solo, too.
@josereyes.theroof wishes to perform Tim Harris's sack-dance...: When the Mariners play in Detroit, Nieuhaus often gets Ernie to come into the booth and do half an inning. He still is as good as it gets.
Vin: keep it going, man. Approve.
