A Buzzer Is Beaten, Coaches Fight, and Sammy, The Headbutting Owl Gets Ejected
There was one more interesting game that we missed in our college basketball wrap-up. Tulane-Rice, which sounds like a not very thrilling matchup but was arguably the most entertaining of the bunch.
We start off at the end, where Tulane's Kevin Sims finished off a hard-fought game by going coast-to-coast for a game-winning layup as time expired. Exciting! Green Wave coach Dave Dickerson was obviously quite pleased with that result and took a moment to high-five a few of his players before the post-game handshake, something that Rice's coaching staff apparently took offense to.
Check out Dickerson's reaction, which is the perfect response to a sore loser getting up in your mug—fold your arms and laugh at them maniacally.
But that wasn't even the most bizarre moment of the night. That came earlier in the second half when Sammy The Owl took exception to a referee's call. (Keep an eye on the Owl, under the basket.)
Yes, the mascot actually butted his comically over-sized head against the ref, and was summarily ejected from the arena. He seemed rather pleased with himself too, which makes me think that it was just part of his plan to get out of there so he could use the bathroom.
