Francisco Rodriguez Arrested For Allegedly Beating Up Father-In-Law In Clubhouse
The Mets closer is in police custody and charged with assault after sending his father in law to the hospital after the Mets' loss tonight.
The Mets would only confirm to us that an altercation took place in the clubhouse after the Mets' 6-2 loss, and that it involved a member of the team and a family member.
But witnesses say K-Rod's father in law suffered facial bruises and minor head injuries, and was transported from Citi Field to a local hospital in an ambulance.
Rodriguez was visibly upset in the bullpen and after the game, after he was not used in the eighth inning as the Mets gave up a lead. He cursed out a member of the media. The alleged fight with his father-in-law occurred later.
Rodriguez has a history of incidents with the team. Last year, he got into a scuffle on the team bus with executive Tony Bernazard, and exchanged words with Yankees reliever Brian Bruney during batting practice after the two traded barbs in the media.
Earlier this year, K-Rod and bullpen coach Randy Niemann had to be separated after the two clashed on how he should be used in a game.
More on this as it develops.
