The Jets Introduced A Car Service For Players The Week Before Braylon Edwards's DUI

As pointed out this morning (and ReTweeted by Peter King — cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria), the most galling thing about Edwards driving drunk is the sheer number of alternatives. Here's another one: the Jets provide free cars and drivers.

That's Edwards, double fisting it at a charity poker tournament yesterday evening. And here's the flyer that he, and all the other Jets received at a team meeting last week, according to Chris Mortensen.

Not only did Edwards not bother to take advantage of the Player Protect program, but his passengers D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Vernon Gholston must have forgotten about it too. And there's absolutely no excuse.

Worried about safety? The Player Protect program comes with security detail, all former police officers, all licensed to carry.

Worried about style? The program offers limos or luxury SUVs, and they all have satellite TVs.

Worried about the cost? The Jets pay for it all.

Really cheap, and worried about tips? They're not even allowed.

So, you know, driving drunk is just about the stupidest thing in the world, but it's even worse in light of the kickass option Edwards had at his disposal.

Hosannas are due to the Jets for being proactive with this program. Well, not so much proactive, but reactive, as pro athletes have a bit of a history with this. Edwards was out drinking with Donte Stallworth the night Stallworth ran over and killed a guy.

There's only so much you can do for stupidity.
