The Blake Griffin Poster Has Arrived
Because no one reads the newspaper, and SportsCenter's anchors are too perky for this early in the morning, Deadspin combs the best of the broadsheets and internets to bring you everything you need to know to start your day.
•Duke looks exceed ingly Dukie in the early going, grabbing the lead from No. 4 Kansas State and never looking back. It was the 800th win for Mike Krzyzewski at Duke, making him only the fifth coach to reach that total at one school. Looks like we'll have to wait a while for Devils' Advocate to provide any schadenfreude.
•Number 2 Michigan State didn't fare as well, falling to UConn in Maui. It might've been a different game if anyone on either team had been able to make a free throw in the closing minutes, but that's what happens when you send college kids to Maui, according to John Salley.
•Lakers/Bulls has regained a little bit of the cachet of the old days, but it wasn't the big names who mattered: Lamar Odom and Shannon Brown led the scoring and LA wins its fifth straight. So yes, Duke's good, the Lakers are good, the Yankees are about to sign a marquee pitcher; at least the Cowboys are going to get blown out tomorrow.
•Up three, 8 seconds left and at the free throw line, the Sixers figured it was over. But two misses, a foul on John Wall on a three-point faux attempt, a clutch Nick Young three in overtime and the Wizards won their second shocker over Philly this year. "Keep all sharp objects away from Doug [Collins]," said Flip Saunders. Fouling up three? Maybe you should keep all NBA teams away from Doug Collins.
•They've reached the inevitable "she wants money/he asked about money" stage in the Favre/Sterger mess. Meanwhile the NFL continues to wait for Favre to bench himself so they can suspend him without actually punishing him.
