Jazz Trade Deron Williams: What The Hell Is Going On In Utah?
Al Iannazzone of the Bergen Record reports that the Utah Jazz have agreed to send two-time All-Star point guard Deron Williams to the New Jersey Nets in exchange for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors and two first-round draft picks. Wow.
This is yet another step in the Jazz's weird year. It comes two weeks after forever-tenured coach Jerry Sloan resigned, only three days after signing a new contract. And Sloan quit after he and Williams nearly came to blows at a recent halftime, according to Yahoo. Sloan reportedly also felt undermined with ownership.
In the power struggle between Williams and Sloan, the player had won, as of two weeks ago. But now he's shipped off to Jersey? Just so the Russian can retaliate in the least bloody fashion he's ever known? (And, while we're on that topic, how did he not get Andrei Kirilenko in this trade?) Anyone in Utah know what they're doing? Does Sloan come back before the end of the month? How will Big Love address all of this?
Yo, Mailman, deliver some answers.
UPDATE: Williams is as baffled as we are, according to Jazz play-by-play announcer David Locke.
Deron Williams told me it was not his choice. He is stunned. Declined to do interview until he figures out what it all means.
