Nationals Unveil "Iconic, Defining Element," A Hamburger You Can Get At The Mets Game
Nationals Park is clean, cozy, semi-convenient, and all-around quite serviceable as a major league ballpark. But nothing there grabs you like PNC Park's view, or AT&T Park's bay, or Minute Maid Park's stupid hill. Nationals Park is a forgettable place to watch a forgettable team. But not any more! (The first part; the team's still forgettable).
"I've been to stadiums and ballparks all over the country, and without a doubt I've never seen anything like this," said Nats COO Andy Feffer, who spearheaded the project. "I think it will become the iconic, defining element of Nationals Park, the thing people leave and say, ‘Did you see that?'"
And what, pray tell, is said project? A food court. Hold on to your monocles, because the Miller Lite Scoreboard Walk will never be the same.
There are four new food stands: Shake Shack (overrated), Blue Smoke barbecue (excellent), Box Frites (quite good), and El Verano Taqueria (grade pending). And if those sound familiar, it's because they're being run by the same company that runs the exact same four concession stands at Citi Field.
"This isn't your run-of-the-mill ballpark space," says the company's COO, despite having an identical setup in another ballpark a few hours away. We're not sold. Until they add some defining architecture to the stadium, or call up Bryce Harper, the Nationals' iconic element will always be their propensity for typos.
