Here's Video Of Prince William Playing Street Hockey Pretty Poorly
Will and Kate are touring that hockey-loving natural resources mine to our north—they might be in charge of it someday!—and their stop today brought them to Yellowknife. Yellowknife is the capital of the Northwest Territories. Not even 20,000 people live there. It's on the shores of the Great Slave Lake. I'd go on, but it'd be just too Canadian.
Anyway, the royals have become slightly more tolerable post-wedding, and we can almost delight in their good cheer here. Look at Prince William thwack that thing—he's game. Too bad Mr. Yellowknife stones him all three times.
The National Post has more:
Dripping in sweat, Calvin Lomen grinned. The 20-year-old from Fort Liard had just stared down the slapshot of the Duke of Cambridge, and bested him three times. Still wearing his red Team Canada jersey and goalie pads, the hockey player smiled when asked how he felt about his royal shootout. "I have [shut him out] and I'm sorry," he said with a cheeky grin. "I heard him say he doesn't know how to play but I think he's got a natural talent." The Prince's first shot hit the goalie's glove, the second hit his stick and the third, despite an effort to deke him out, missed the net entirely. (In case you're curious, normal lefty William shoots right-handed.) Mr. Lomen said it was a story to take back to his community, a small town in the territory's Dehcho region.
There are six towns in the Dehcho region, numbering about 2,000 in total population. You're the best, Canada.
