Patriots Player, Dressed As A Cop, Was Charged With Indecent Assault And Battery On Halloween Night
New England Patriot Julian Edelman was charged with indecent assault and battery on a woman early this morning. He is due in Boston Municipal Court for an arraignment today. Hopefully, since he was taken into custody at a Back Bay nightclub at about 1:30 this morning, he has had the opportunity to change out of his Reno 911!-inspired cop costume.
The Boston police have not yet released any details on the allegations against Edelman, a 25-year-old reserve wide receiver and kick returner for New England, but there is an alleged "grope" in play:
After speaking with the female victim, Edelman was arrested on a single count of indecent assault and battery, Driscoll said. Edelman was taken into custody but later posted bail and was released by police.
Driscoll said out of respect for the confidentiality of the information the victim supplied to police, she would not provide specific details of the allegation against Edelman.
In a report on the case, Boston police said Edelman was inside the nightclub on Halloween night when he allegedly reached underneath the woman's costume and groped her below the waist.
The incident occurred at a nightclub called Storyville, which is about two miles from Howl At The Moon, where we're told Edelman had judged a costume contest earlier on. (This photo, sent in by an anonymous tipster, was taken at Howl At The Moon; Edelman also tweeted about the appearance.) The Globe reports that the man with the woman who accused Edelman "confronted [him] on the dance floor and 'threatened to beat him up' while the woman tried to calm him down." The Storyville staff then removed the man and the woman from the club.
Edelman's out on bail now, which means that he may have experienced the most shameful Halloween walk of shame in history: He presumably left police custody dressed in Lieutenant Jim Dangle's short shorts. Surely he'd appreciate the irony if he didn't also have an arraignment today.
