Not This Shit Again: Now It's South Carolina Football Players Promoting A Nightclub Party
Two days after we brought you the story of UNC receiver Dwight Jones's now-cancelled birthday party at a North Carolina nightclub—a party that rendered Jones ineligible, briefly—here's another fiesta being promoted on Facebook using the likenesses of some college athletes—this time from South Carolina.
Drop by the event page, why don't you. Here's the description of the event, verbatim:
#TEAMCASCADE ALONG WITH CAROLINA GAMECOCKS'S OWN CEE CEE WHITLOCK & JADEVEON "DOO DOO" CLOWNEY PRESENT "CAROLINA CHRISTMAS" X-MAS EVE EXPLOSION..EVERYBODY FREE TILL 11 DRINK SPECIALS ALL NIGHT LONG——->@ CLUB CASCADE WE ARE ALSO CELEBRATING THE B-DAY OF SHEENA ANDERSON & OM BLAKE!!!!!
The party's promoter seems to be one " Rpeezy Patterson Iknowmoney" and he's especially excited about promoting the event on his Twitter, @Drunk_Season. (He'll be in enough trouble for using the "Carolina Gamecocks" wordmark without proper licensing, but we'll let South Carolina's compliance department deal with that.)
It's possible Whitlock & Clowney have no idea they're hosting this party, though a promoter insists they gave their OK to appear on the flyer. While Whitlock's a senior who's been suspended multiple times for arrests and academic issues, Clowney was just named SEC Freshman Of The Year. (Clowney, too, served a suspension earlier this season.) They're both preparing to play in the Capital One Bowl against Nebraska on January 2nd.
NCAA athletes, let's make it clear. No matter how stupid the rules may be, your ability to play football is contingent upon your honoring the commitment you made to follow those rules. Since one of those rules is that you can't advertise for or promote anything, stop doing it.
As for the scumbag party promoters and club owners who use players' likenesses to get more butts in the club? You're the lowest of the low: no better than the NCAA itself.
