This Interview With PGA Golfer Matt Every Is A Train Wreck
Matt Every leads the Sony Open in Hawaii by two strokes, but his play is being overshadowed by this bizarre interview with the Golf Channel's Kelly Tilghman in which his 2010 arrest for marijuana possession (and subsequent suspension from the tour) is addressed. Every's defensiveness suggests he was taken by surprise by the question—which he then tried to clarify in the post-round press conference:
I still hang out with the same people. I have great friends, man. If one of my friends likes to smoke marijuana every now and then, I'm not going to say, well, you can't be my friend anymore. Honestly, man, I know more people who smoke marijuana than who don't smoke marijuana.
Wei Under Par notes the charges were dropped and that he wasn't given a tour drug suspension. But if Every's going to make a star of himself—and earn the endorsements that line the pockets of PGA pros—he'll need to learn a bit of proper image strategy.
