Jose Maria Olazabal Was Pulled Over Doing 97 MPH After Leaving The Masters
Two-time Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal was ticketed in southeastern Georgia yesterday morning after he was clocked going 97 mph in a 65 mph zone.
As a Spanish national, Olazabal was forced to follow officers back to the station and pay bond before being released. Cpl. Jason Bragg, director of communications for the Effingham County Sheriff's office, says Olazabal was cooperative and told deputies that he had just left the Masters, about two hours away in Augusta, and was on his way to the Heritage Classic in Hilton Head, S.C., which begins this week.
Olazabal, the captain of the European Ryder Cup team, had been in Augusta for the Champions Dinner honoring his friend and teammate Seve Ballesteros, who passed away last May. Olazabal went on to shoot seven-over for the first two days, missing the cut.
