London Olympics Invite Keith Moon, Dead For 34 Years, To Play Closing Ceremony
There are just about a hundred days to go before the Summer Olympics, so presumably all the heavy lifting is done. The venues are built, the support staff hired and trained, and all that's left is getting the little touches right, so as to avoid incidents like Wayne Gretzky's face.
One of those little things is booking the performers for "the Symphony of Rock, a celebration of British pop culture" that will make up a part of the closing ceremonies. Organizers reached out to The Who's manager, asking what drummer Keith Moon is up to these days.
"I emailed back saying Keith now resides in Golders Green crematorium, having lived up to the Who's anthemic line 'I hope I die before I get old'," the band's longtime manager, Bill Curbishley, told the Times. "If they have a round table, some glasses and candles, we might contact him."
Also not playing the ceremony: the Sex Pistols, who flatly turned it down. As for who's in, reports indicate Adele, Paul McCartney, Elton John, the Rolling Stones, Take That, and the Spice Girls could perform. Maybe Daltrey and Townshend can find Scot Halpin's phone number.
