Rays Infielder Will Rhymes Passed Out After Being Hit By A Pitch Tonight [UPDATE]
A horrifying scene unfolded at Tropicana Field in the bottom of the eighth inning of tonight's Rays-Red Sox game as Tampa Bay infielder Will Rhymes collapsed on the field after being hit on the arm by a pitch from Boston's Franklin Morales.
While Rhymes appeared to be okay after being hit, upon reaching first he gestured to the Rays dugout that he needed to be replaced—before collapsing into the arms of first base coach George Hendrick.
Rhymes lay motionless on the turf for several minutes before sitting upright and being taken off the field on a cart. The incident comes at a bad time for the Rays, who already have nine players on the disabled list. [Sun Sports]
Update (11:12 p.m.): Rays beat writer Marc Topkin reports x-rays were negative and that Rhymes has a bruised arm.
