Why Was David Stern Sitting Next To One Of Rupert Murdoch's Sons Last Night?
James, as you may already know, is Rupert Murdoch's youngest son. He also is entangled in that whole phone-hacking mess in London.
Because of that, he's given up a few jobs over the last year, so we suppose he has a little more time on his hands. (He's still involved in satellite company BSkyB's "strategic television business," per The New York Times, "mostly focusing on international assets like Sky Italia, Sky Deutschland and emerging channels in India and elsewhere.")
But why was he sitting next to David Stern at Game 5 of the NBA Finals? That is less clear. They once had dinner together in Davos in 2005 (with a bunch of other media executives). But there isn't much of a paper trail of the two of them palling around after that. Could it have anything to do with this new "World Cup of Basketball" proposal? Legal advice? What could've brought these two men together? What on earth do they have to talk about?
We reached out to an NBA spokesman and a Murdoch spokesperson but we haven't heard back. Do you know why James and David are buddies? Email me: [email protected].
