Rick Reilly Says He Is A Fool, The Rest Of Us Get The Day Off
Rick Reilly has issued a mea culpa of sorts regarding Joe Paterno. Reilly essentially issued an apology for publishing a 10-page fluff piece on Paterno for Sports Illustrated's Sportsman Of The Year award. For example, paragraph two:
But legends have a confounding habit of showing up in strange shapes. And a funny thing happens when this one starts to say something. Two-hundred- eighty-pound linemen, college presidents, NCAA honchos, network biggies and even your basic U.S. vice-presidents cross-body-block one another to get near him. Good thing, too, because Joe Paterno, the football coach at Penn State University, can teach you some of the damnedest things.
This time around Reilly does not pull any punches and takes it to Paterno. There's just this one thing nagging at me. The unnamed professor who contacted Reilly on his "secret" visit to Penn State. This mysterious professor warns against "the study of saints" and expressed some eerily prescient words on Paterno:
"You don't know him. He'll do anything to win. What you media are doing is dangerous."
Pretty tidy, no? So, yakspinners, bullshit narrative device or should we launch an investigation into finding this professor?
