The Braves Won Their First Monday Game In Nearly A Year
Looks like Garfield and Carl Crawford's heckler aren't the only ones who hate Mondays. The Braves had put together a mystifying, 0-16 streak in Monday games going back to last August. What's more, it hasn't been close: Atlanta only had three one-run losses over that span, all to the Marlins.
The Marlins were in town again last night, and that was one of three things the Braves had working their favor. The second was rally socks: everyone but starting pitcher Tim Hudson Tommy Hanson hiked up their pants, exposing some old-school high socks. The third was Chipper Jones's indecipherable Twitter account. Since Jones joined Twitter last week, the Braves haven't lost. Jones tweeted before last night's game:
Well, the Braves won. Jason Heyward homered, they put up a four-spot in the fifth, and Atlanta starts its week off right for the first time all year. Afterwards, reporters asked Chipper Jones if it was the tweets or the high socks that broke the streak. He replied, "I think it was eight runs and 13 hits."
