Is Jim Boeheim Retiring? [UPDATE]
It's been a weird season for Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim. From continued battles with the media to pro-gun control pressers, it's been a year that's led more than one observer to say it's time for Boeheim to retire.
Earlier this evening we received a tip suggesting Boeheim would be retiring after Syracuse's game tonight against DePaul, a 78-57 win for the Orange. We dismissed it as a crackpot, until the official Syracuse University account tweeted this:
That's curious! The link doesn't say much, other than the following alleged bombshell:
A source close to DYST Now is reporting that Syracuse director of Athletics, Dr. Daryl Gross is expected to meet with the NCAA about possible NCAA violations from last year's team.
Syracuse head coach, Jim Boeheim as a result has also been asked to retire.
Everything about this is weird, and the @SyracuseU tweet has since been deleted. The DYST Now page is certainly of questionable authority, but why did Syracuse link to it? We'll update as we get more answers.
Update (9:18 p.m.): The Syracuse Post-Standard says an SU spokesman denies the report:
Update (11:31 p.m.): NBC Sports' EJ Argenio passes along word that an SU spokesperson provided him the following response:
That was inadvertently and mistakenly sent out. Nothing contained in the tweet or the blog link is accurate or true. We apologize for the confusion. Kevin Quinn, Senior VP for Public Affairs
